Peace Pilgrim: An Author Talk & Film with Merry Brennan
To be held Tuesday, June 12, 2013 from 6:30-8 pm at Wall Township Library
In 1953, Mildred Norman Ryder set off from the Rose Bowl parade on New Year’s Day with a goal of walking the entire country for peace. She left her given name behind and took up a new identity: Peace Pilgrim. Author Merry Brennan discusses her new book Peace Pilgrim: Walking Her Talk Against Hate and the extraordinary life of Mildred Norman.
She will also show the powerful 1-hour documentary film Peace Pilgrim: An American Sage Who Walked Her Talk, a poetic and musical exploration of her life and message, which is as relevant today as ever. Also included are interviews with The Dalai Lama, Maya Angelou, John Robbins, Elizabeth Kubler Ross, and many of Peace Pilgrim’s friends along with newsreel footage from the 1950’s, 1960’s, and 1970’s, when Peace was on her walk for peace.
Merry Brennan, a local author from Belmar, is a long-time professional writer and journalist who loves writing, making art and exploring the world. For more information, visit the Monmouth County Library event site: http://bit.ly/11adrQP or contact Merry Brennan: email@example.com

Ocean Grove Patricia’s Boutique to Host Book Signing
Author Merry Brennan will be signing her book, Peace Pilgrim: walking her talk against hate, at Patricia’s Boutique, 60 Main Ave,, Ocean Grove, from noon-2 pm on May 18, during the fun-filled Vintage Car Show and Music on Main event.
The book tells the story of Peace Pilgrim, a New Jersey farm girl and 1920’s flapper, who gave up everything she owned and walked across the U.S. for 28 years with only the clothes on her back to promote peace. Living off the land and the kindness of strangers, she crossed the country on foot seven times. Whenever she encountered trouble — from blizzards to black eyes — her sole response was love. Part Forest Gump and part Mahatma Gandhi, Peace Pilgrim touched tens of thousands of lives, one step at a time.
“With everything going on in the world, I think we can all benefit from a little dose of Peace Pilgrim,” said Brennan. “She is a role model on so many levels. Beyond the obvious message of peace, hers is a story about listening to your heart, putting one step in front of the other and living with joyful purpose, no matter what.”
Patricia’s Boutique will have the book available all summer. Brennan said Ocean Grove is a perfect fit for the biographical novel and she is thrilled to kick off the arrangement with her book signing. For more information, visit Patricia’s Boutique (
